The saddest Thing

The saddest Thing: inabilty to love

  What is the saddest thing in one's life? Perhaps we can name a lot of sad things: being ugly, being poor, being unsuccessful, being crippled,ect.But which one is the saddest? I think I got the answer from two viedos I saw yesterday.

 They are two totally different videos.

One is a TV interview. The interviewees are a couple who do not love each other but have lived together for twelve years. Oh, It was a second marriage for both of them. They had two children, which were born during their first marriage. In the whole process of the interview, I saw very cold confrontation between them.They were criticizing each other.And they were even quarrelling with each other in front of the hostess! I can sense the indifference of them toward each other. The woman has been out of work for many years. She simply rent her house and got some money from that. So she bought food and clothes with those money. She complaint that her husband never brought back money and always came back home very late, usually from 12 o'clock to 5 o'clock at night, drank sometimes. The man was very weird, too. He kept his money as if it were something precious than life. He never let his wife know how much he earned. He usually put his money in his office, and if he accidentally brought money back home, he would hide it from his wife. They always had no sex.What a hell their life is! What a meaningless, dirty marriage!

 The other video I watched was a record about the life of a young man and his girfriend after May 12 in Si Chuan, where an earthquake took many lives on that very day. The girl was trapped under a wall of a damaged building. Before she was pulled out of the building, her boy friend was waiting outside and companying her all the time. After that, she needed an operation. Altogether the rescuing time and the treatment was a long time altogether. Because of this her boyfriend got fired. When asked by the journalist whether he needed some help with finding a new job, he told the journalist that he would consider his work until his girlfriend recovered and that he believed they would live a happy life by working together with their both hands.True.They were in difficult situations.But I envied them.The earthquake is a test of their love!

Sometimes life may go through ups and downs, even encounter a lot of disasters. The greatest disaster is the situation the first couple were facing! Obviously they have no ability to solve that. otherwise they would't have made it last for so long a time. Inability to love is the saddest thing in one's life, actually.

The Life of the Lesser Beings

  Who are lesser beings? I can not give an exact definition of those kind of people. Perhaps you may say those who can not make a living, who has no money, or who can not get any help from any body though suffering from some serious diseases are lesser beings. Yes, you are right at this point. But When we are travelling across the city in a hurry in order to get to the office in time every morning, especially on the cold winter mornings, we may see some old men or women sleeping on the ground in front of a restaurant, or under a bridge. A little bit of sympathy may arise from the bottom of our heart when we see them huddling there like a dog. But very soon our minds will be occupied by some more 'important' things-----Its' time to check our bank account today, the water and electricity bills should be paid after that, and then there are not enough food in the fridge!------- then you forget about those lesser beings until you see them again the next moring or until they disappear or die!

  I am also very busy planning my own life everyday. I am planning to earn a new certificate in certain branch of learning, to earn more money to buy a new house, or to change my job next month. I am always doing all of these without making an observation of the people living around me----the widow living next door, the middle aged man upstairs and many others I will meet frequently when I  walk up or down the  stairs . I seldom say hello to them, and they never me. What a strange situation!

 Then one morning, I got up early and were ready to go to work. When I opened my door, I saw a man lying on his stomache on the steps of the stairs, giving out some odor of alcohol! The image of some dangerous killers I saw in the movies came to my mind! I was scared! After a second thought, a chilling idea occured to me, "he must be drunk or even dead and a drunk man may hurt anybody!" SoI decided to run away from where he was as soon as possible! I did so out of my instinct. Since then, I saw the man going upstairs twice. He was just drunk that day!He must be my neighbor living upstais, I think.

  Life seemed peaceful and normal after that little incident. But When I came back from my lunar new year's trip, I saw something disgusting! A dirty river of sewage was running in front of our building! One day passed. I saw more dirty waters were coming out of the underground! Two days passed. The sewage nearly blocked the walkway! Oh, my God! even in my dreams I could not get those dirty things out of my mind! I tossed and turned on my bed and groaned at night! I decided to do something!

 The next morning, I said hello to the old man  living on the third floor because I noticed he cleaned the stairs voluntarily. I talked to him and discussed with him about how to get the sewage disposal fixed. " Noboday will care about that!"he said.

The final configuration, requiring 45 separate space launches over at least six years and many long days of spacewalks by astronaut construction workers, will track diamond-bright across the night sky. Only the moon and Venus will be bigger and more visible.
“It takes a while to get perspective on how big this thing is,” says Kevin Chilton, the station’s operations manager at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. To demonstrate, he stretches his arms across a model of the station without reaching either end. The space shuttle docked to the station is only the size of a football and almost lost in the labyrinth of trusses, panels, and modules.

On May 1st,2007, I was on the train coming back from Shanghai to Zhengzhou. By the way,I just graduated from SISU----- a famous university in China and I would come back to my hometown, Zhengzhou, to start my career there partly because my family was there.The train was crowded with so many passengers that you could not make a move once you were seated. Fortuately, I got a seat by the window. Sitting next to me was a salesman, whose job was to promote motobikes.And beside him were two young girls, who had just finished their Graduate Entrance Exams in Shanghai.Opposite the two girls were two young men, one of which worked in a Real Estate Agency in Shanghai, and the other was a worker in a Foreign Company in Changzhou.Standing beside the guy of the Real Estate Agency was, the motobike guy told me, the executive manager of their Motorbike Company.
At first, every one of us just exchanged greetings in a very reserved manner.
"Hi, Where are you going?"
"what's your destination?" were the frequently asked questions.
Later on, our topics began focusing on job hunting and money-making.
From the conversation, I knew that those two young girls had just got their Bachelor's Degrees. " It is very difficult for us to find a job." one of the girls said, " I think China do not need so many laywers in these years." "We become jobless the day we graduated." said the other.
" Then why did you decide to further your study?" asked the Changzhou Guy.
" Because we had to," answered the girls, " It's much better than having nothing to do."
" I don't think so," The Changzhou guy said disapprovingly," You can work first. You know what? Knowlege is devalued nowadays. I didn't finish High School, but I earn 3000 yuan a month!" The Changzhou guy's words caught everyone's attention.
Noticing that everyone was listening to him, the Changzhou guy went on with his speech, " My cousin went to college, but he didn't find a good job. He is a clerk now. He only earns 1500 yuan a month. He looked down upon me before because he thought I was not clever enough to go to college. Now, I will pay a visit to him each time I go back home. And I will show him that I can earn more money than him!" I saw a contemptuous look in his eyes while he was talking about his cousin as if he were teaching his cousin a lesson.
Hearing this, I sighed without being noticed.How much money one can earn is not the only thing that matters in one's life! But when one can not make a living by making full use of his/her expertise, then there is something wrong with our educational system. Many college students spent years studying various courses only to find that those years spent in college are not worthwhile at all, how disappointed they will feel when they are rejected in the job market time and time again!
More and more students are still enrolling their names in the universities every year! Will they do that again if they can predict what will happen to them upon graduation?
