year after a scandal broke out over stray cats being shipped to dinner
tables in south China, the taste for cat meat apparently persists, and
along with it, the trade in abandoned cats. |

Last
week, cat lovers in the northern city of Tianjin rescued around 1,300
cats that were bound for meat dealers in the southern province of
Guangdong, Xinhua reports. |

The cats were found in cages in a store in the city, a few of them, including a pregnant female, already dead. |
